June 7, 2002, Newsletter Issue #93: German Proofing Tools for Winword

Tip of the Week

You can buy an additional CD-ROM for Office 2000 from Microsoft. It contains proofing tools for 80 languages, including a German spellchecker, thesauraus, and grammar. It is called Microsoft® Proofing Tools 2000, but it is expensive (ca. $80). Alternatively, you can find out the names of the missing drivers, download them and install them manually. This may take some time, but you will have saved a lot of money. Here`s how this works: Write a short German sentence in (Win)Word and press F7 for the spellcheck. You should get a message that Word cannot find the drivers mssp232.dll and mssp3GE.dll (this applies to Word 2000! If you use an older (Win)Word version, the dll-files may have slightly different names). Type the names of the missing drivers into a search engine.
