July 25, 2003, Newsletter Issue #150: Visa Questions

Tip of the Week

From 01.10.2003 onwards the United States of America will accept only "machine-readable" passports for the visa-free travel to the USA. German citizens holding provisional passports or Kinderausweise, will need a visa from 01.10.2003 onwards. The same applies for entries of children in the passports of their parents. This part (page 2 in the German passport) is not machine-readable and therefore a visa has to be applied for --before-- travelling to the United States of America. Children may obtain individual, machine-readable German passports (Europapass) (without agelimt, with a foto, valid for 5 years, issueing time: 6-8 weeks).
