Alemania del Este
Alemania del Este, o formalmente la Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR, República Democrática Alemana), fue el nombre dado a la mitad de Alemania después de la Segunda Guerra Mundial (1949). Se encuentra en el centro de Europa, bordeando por el norte hasta el Mar Báltico, al este de Polonia, al sur de la República Checa, y al sur y al oeste de la antigua Alemania Occidental (República Federal de Alemania, BRD, FDR). Se rige por un partido único, el SED (Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschland) y se inclinó hacia la Unión Soviética de orientación política, la ciencia y los intercambios económicos de todo tipo. Alemania del Este dejó de existir cuando se reunificó con la República Federal de Alemania el 3 de octubre de 1990.
