February 8, 2002, Newsletter Issue #76: Forgotten German Zip Codes

Tip of the Week

1) Search the German Online Phone Directory (http://www.telefonbuch.de/). You do not have to speak German, your search can be in English, German or French. You can locate private phone numbers, addresses and business phone numbers. You can limit your search to one particular town. You can search by last name, name and initial, or by first and last names, which improves your chances. You can also fill out a street address if you have it. The server will give you a list of hits, which you can print. This is your best bet.

2) Search the German Teleinfo Network (http://www.teleinfo.de/). This is recommended if you can speak some German. There are city maps, links to phone directories, and businesses.

3) If all this fails try a general German server, such as Lycos (www.lycos.de). The search functions are similar to the other two servers mentioned above, but the major advantage is that they also search for e-mail addresses. Recommended if you speak some German.
