Promotion of Commerce

From the beginning of the 19th century onwards, Prussia's measures to promote commerce tended to function indirectly. Besides loans and interest relief, they included the decree granting freedom of trade, the foundation of academies, the provision of exemplary machines from abroad, protective customs duties, patent law, and support for trade exhibitions.
