Vocational training is totally job-oriented. It is provided by individual companies. It is not reglemented by the German government. You earn money for the work you do. After you finish your vocational training, you get a
certificate. The company can then either keep you or kick you. - Further education is knowledge-oriented. It is governed by the school board aka education council aka German government. It prepares you for going to college ("Universitaet"). You do not earn any money. - Lastly, another possibility to gain further education is to attend an evening school ("Abendschule"). This is a school for working adults, who left school after class 10 and decide they want to get the "Abitur". The "Abitur" is the
finals which let you attend a college and comparable to a high school diploma.
