What is the Einwohnermeldeamt?

Einwohnermeldeamt

Everybody who moves to Germany must register their new address with the Einwohnermeldeamt. It is advisable to do this within 6 days of having moved. Note: you may have to pay a fine if you do not register promptly. Find the Einwohnermeldeamt for your district in your local telephone directory. This will also tell you what the office hours are.
