What is ´geil´?

"Geil" means randy or horny. However, it was used in the 80s and 90s to describe something 'fab', e.g. a 'geil' song, a 'geil' t-shirt, a 'geil' haircut etc.., such as in 'Das ist ja total geil! Abgefahren!'.
