Why did Prussia take an interest in education?

Academies and Universities

The foundation of academies and universities demonstrated the state`s interest in science and its promising commercial applications. Education and training at these facilities was always primarily at the service of the state economy, the preservation of power and the prestige of Prussia. Nonetheless, the humanistic educational ideal of Wilhelm von Humboldt outlived the Prussian state and still remains influential.
